Abstract

  • Number of poor people in Kalimantan Utara in March 2017 was 49.47 thousand (7.22 percent). In September 2016, number of poor people was 47.03 thousand (6.99 percent), meaning that number of poor people increased by 2.44 thousand people or an increase of 0.23 percent.
  • During the period September 2016 - March 2017, poor people in urban areas increased by 0.77 thousand people and in rural areas also increased by 1.67 thousand people.
  • In March 2017, number of poor people living in rural areas was 31.45 thousand people (10.78 percent), more than those living in urban areas of 18.02 thousand people (4.59 percent).
  • During September 2016 - March 2017, the poverty line increased by 4.05 percent, from IDR 530,566 per capita per month in September 2016 to IDR 552,040 per capita per month in March 2017. In same period, National Poverty Line was IDR 361,990 per capita per month (September 2016) and increased to IDR 374,478 per capita per month (March 2017).
  • In period September 2016 - March 2017, Poverty Gap Index (P1) and Poverty Severity Index (P2) increased. Poverty Gap Index increased from 0.879 in September 2016 to 1.207 in March 2017. Likewise, Poverty Severity Index increased from 0.214 to 0.340 in the same period.
  • In March 2017, level of inequality in population spending as measured by the Gini Ratio was recorded at 0.308. This figure increased by 0.003 points when compared to the September 2016 Gini Ratio of 0.305.
  • The Gini Ratio in urban areas in March 2017 was recorded at 0.298. The Gini Ratio in rural areas in March 2017 was recorded at 0.268.
  • In March 2017, the expenditure distribution for the bottom 40 percent of the population was 21.64 percent. This means that people's expenditure is still in the category of low levels of inequality. In urban areas the figure is recorded at 22.06 percent while in rural areas, the figure is recorded at 23.68 percent, which means it is in the low inequality category.
